Sports rehabilitation.
How can sports massage help?
Sports massage therapy plays a pivotal role in sports rehabilitation by facilitating faster recovery, assisting with pain management, restoring function and strength, and to assist in injury prevention.
But why should sports massage be used during rehabilitation?
Great question. Sports massage in the early stages can be used to primarily reduce inflammation, pain, and promote circulation. At this stage gentle mobilisations and/or lymphatic drainage can help with general stiffness and manage swelling.
As the process continues towards the mid-stage, the intensity of massage therapy increases and targets towards breaking down scar tissue/adhesions, improving muscle flexibility, and restoring strength.
Lastly, once we reach towards the end-stage of rehabilitation, sports massage therapy can help prepare the body for high-level activity or competitions by enhancing muscle function, addressing imbalances, and prevent the reoccurrence of future injuries.
And don’t forget, exercise prescription plays a major role in the recovery stage to get you back to peak performance.
